Dr.Mahbub ul Haq's Condition compelling Kenya to import:
Way back in late eighties when I was asked as Banker to recommend what Businessmen of Kenya import from Pakistan in return of some USD 50 mio worth of Tea to Pakistan,I recommended Pumps and Fan from Gujrat.
The looms from Gujranwala and Pumps and Fans from Gujrat soon captured large part of Kenya market mostly replacing Indian.
Dr.Mahbub ul Haq imposed a condition that any country which was exporting to Pakistan must also import equal amount from goods from Pakistan. Now a days our weak Rulers cant mandate this.If done our exports can jump to $ 45 bio.
Gujrat now:
I reached Gujrat on 18th Nov in the afternoon after some struggle found a decant room in Najina Hotel in the heart of the Town. The area was like a food street. The main bus stop was not far away.
After some rest a roamed around the Town till late and had dinner outside in a busy Tikka shop.Food was good and atmosphere changed and jolly.People were very friendly and became more so when they learnt that I have come to their town just for visit and to see them.Soon many recognized as host of @businessplustv which seemed quite popular in this business town.
Next morning got up early and walked for about two hours to cover most of the Town including DC office and Court complex. See photos.
The Town seem booming with very busy old covered markets as well new air-conditioned Malls.
University of Gujrat was an impressive affair with old colonial building connected to moderns once with pedestrian bridges.
Engineering excellence of the Town is recognized all over the World. Its engineering products in particular Fans and Water pump are considered most reliable.Besides Africa,Bangladesh is big importer of Gujrat products.
At noon I boarded a Hi Ace for Bhimber Azad Kashmir.
