Machine for Oxford Melamine from Gujranwala in 1988.
My first introduction to Gujranwala was in 1988,when my late brother in law Masoom Hasan Khan suggested we buy machines for our Melamine Factory Oxford from a Co in Gugranwala rather from Sindh Engineering in Karachi.
I had easily obtained a loan of Rs 25 lacs from Industrial Development Bank.Who recommended that we buy the machines from well reputed Cos on their panel. The best quotation duely approved and recommended by Bank was Rs 5 lac per 40ton pressing machine. We need five so all the loan would have been used for just the machines.
The quotation from Gujranwala was Rs 65,000 per machine, with assurance of full after sale service. We opted for these machine from own resources and refused the loan. The huge gap we later learned was the due to cut by Engineering,Audit and Credit Dept of the Bank as well good share the Engineering Co concerned.
We loved the machine so much that even after closure of factory in 2004,we did not sell it till 2014 for Rs 10 lacs.
Recent visit:
On 15th Nov 2015 I reached Gujranwala from Kasur via Lahore.A friendly and hospitable Rickshaw brought me to a busy business Area opposite the Railway station.I chose a corner hotel with a good view of the humming Town below. The choice for Dinner was many and enjoyed Paya after a long time.Variety of Drinks were many and all eateries were doing good business.People appeared well off and happy with a taste of good food.
Later I walked around the well stuffed and busy Bazaar.I was a great experience. Next morning I went further and explored the Steel and other markets.Up coming LB election seemed to have electrified the Town.Interest in political process was very impressive.Took lot of photos.
Finally I came an Old park which provided respite in other wise very busy district.Near the park I located a high class hotel which I had not seen last night.
In the afternoon I left for Sialkot from Bus terminal located opposite my hotel across the main road.
